Hairy Beast

I have a confession. I hate hair. I mean, I get really, REALLY grossed out by hair. Not the hair that is secured attached to a person - I'm generally ok with that hair. What I'm talking about is loose hair, shedded hair. I have long ago recognized that for this very reason I could never be a hair-stylist. I would be too busy gagging the in washing sinks to actually do my job.

Lest you are concerned about me being biased about the source of hair, rest assured, I am not. My own fallen hair grosses me out as much or even more that anyone else's. I try to do my part after showing. When I pull loose strands from my head, I deposit them in the garbage can. But I can never get them all. After using the blow dryer, there are many more that fall to the floor. Those are the ones that trigger my gag reflex. The ones on the bathroom counter. The stray ones that land elsewhere throughout the house. I have decided the only way to eliminate these unwanted visitors to my bathroom is to shave my head. However, I love the attached hairs too much to let them go. There is a fine line between my love and hatred for hair. And apparently that line is a firmly grasping follicle.

Bossy Little Thing

BG loves dogs. She loves all kinds of dogs - big, little, rowdy, calm, furry, you get the idea. She especially loves my parent's dog, Moab. I think part of what she loves best about him is that he is really old and very gentle. Which means she can boss him around. She loves telling him commands - out, stay, down, etc.

The other day her Daddy asked her to go put a book away before he would take her downstairs. She picked up the book, turned to Daddy and said "Stay Daddy!" I busted up laughing. Daddy obediently listened and stayed until she returned.

Gas Prices Killing You?

We've all seen the articles that are everywhere these days about the high cost of gasoline, ways to conserve, etc, etc. I found this article particularly insightful. AKA- Hilarious. It's a must read. Eric Snider is my new favorite for when I am in need of a good laugh.

Funny Face

It's so fun to see BG grow up. Today she decided to pull a "funny face" which really made me laugh. I said that her face was going to freeze that way and immediately felt like my mother. When asked if she wanted a picture of her funny face, she agreed.

She had her first day at New School today and did very well. The teachers said she was happy and played well. That makes me happy. I was a bit nervous dropping her off. I felt like it was the first day of school and now I understand why some parents have a hard time with that.

Bye Friends!

The Child (who by-the-way I have decided to rename BG for the sake of blogland) had her last day at her current daycare today. Next week she is going to a new daycare that is closer to home - hurray for me! I had to take a few pictures of her and her friends. The kids in her class are so cute and they are all such good little friends. They often give each other hugs and I know she will miss them.

What a response!

Wow! I think this is the most comments I have ever gotten! Obviously people have strong feelings about working mothers. I think for those of us who are working mothers, there is an ongoing question of "Am I doing the right thing?" Perhaps that nagging question exists for SAHMs as well - I'm not sure since I've never been one. Even so, I know there are benefits of my working for my family as a whole, as well and for each member individually. There are also down-sides of where we are in life. It's all about balance. I try to recognize that the balance that works best for me is not going to be the right balance for the next mom and/or family.

As for school, I am still looking into it. I plan to take the GMAT (graduate entrance exam for MBA school). My score on that will make a huge impact on the decision. If I bomb it and can't get into school, it doesn't much matter! I'm still feeling good about it at this point, but it's early on. I am now leaning toward a full-time program so I wouldn't be working at the same time. I'm not sure how I could do all those things in my life at the same time.

Am I Crazy?

Today while sitting at my job, I was thinking how I'm not so into my chosen career path anymore. I'm not feeling challenged and interested in something new. I started looking at graduate school again - for the millionth time. This time I started browsing the MBA programs. I came home and told my husband how I was feeling and he is so great and super supportive. He encouraged me to explore what it is I really want and the best way to get there.

So, long story short - I'm researching MBA programs. I'm leaning toward an executive or part-time program so I can still work, but not sold on any one thing yet. Including going back to school! The though of graduate school leaves me constantly torn between two ideas. The first: that I'm still young in my career and if I'm going to spend the next 40 years doing something, it's worth doing what I really like. This means additional schooling is best done now, while I am young. The other idea: that I have started a family, would like to grow my family, and the ship of graduate school has sailed. I think I should be more focused on The Child and going back to school is best suited later down the road, after we've had all the kids and they are in school. It's a tough argument because I can see both sides.

So, am I crazy? How insane am I for considering going back to school with a 2-year old? Will I even be able to work FT, go to school, and be a wife and mother. Just the thought makes my head spin and the butterflies start up in my stomach. That will make The Child 5 by the time I graduate. Is it best to do this undertaking while she is young and we only have one or to wait until she is older and more self-sufficient? Will I regret it if I don't go? I'd love to hear your thoughts - especially you Meredith!

Wasps

Does anyone know a great remedy for the swarms of wasps that have taken up residence in my backyard? Early this spring we noticed a nest in our shed, sprayed it with bug-killer and thought that would be the end of it. Over the last few months, we have continued to find new nests all the time. I think this is the current count.
6+ in or around the shed
6 under the railing of the deck
1 on the house
unknown number yet to be found (where else can they hide?!)
1 wasp sting - minor

Tonight The Man went to the store and bought four more cans of wasp-killer. He came home and promptly sprayed the recently discovered nests. I really appreciate him doing this since I don't do the icky bug/vermin thing. I appreciate it even more knowing that he is allergic to bee stings and is quite literally risking his life to rid our house of wasps. Thanks honey! Oh, and sorry to the neighbors who now have to put up with recently displaced flying needles.

Going Shopping

The Child got his purse for her birthday. She loves to put it on, wave bye-bye and go "shopping". On this day, she also added some bracelets and her sunglasses - accessories are very important to complete an outfit. These are a few shots of her as she heads out the door. What a princess!
